ONC launches blog for feedback on policy agenda

Friday, October 30, 2009

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT launched a blog this week to give the public a way to comment directly on the work being done by the two key advisory panels that are helping shape health IT policies.

The blog site is here.

The blog is intended to generate feedback on the work of the ONC’s Health IT Standards Committee and Health IT Policy Committee, according to Judy Sparrow, who is a liaison between ONC and the two panels.

In a note on the blog, White House chief technology officer Aneesh Chopra said the administration wants to encourage public discussion threads on topics including proposed health IT standards, interoperability, vocabularies, privacy, security, quality, and implementation case studies.

The blog also has a voting feature, “to allow you – the public – an opportunity to emphasize points raised in a given post,” Chopra noted on the log.

“Our goal is to harness the shared wisdom of our community to inform the work of the HIT Standards Committee in the weeks and months ahead,” he said.
